Polyethylene biodegradation in collaboration with AINIA

R&D&I - Thursday December 2nd, 2010

Our company, PICDA, together with AINIA, is successfully developing a project to improve the biodegradation of polyethylene used in the manufacture of plastic bags, through the combined use of pro-oxidant additives and the selection of microorganisms with specific capacity for the degradation of polyethylene.

The implementation of this project will allow the development of films with a low-density polyethylene base, and characteristics that facilitate the incorporation of pro-oxidant additives, and which can then biodegrade in a reasonable time. This, together with the tendency of the market to incorporate easily degradable packaging, demonstrates a great technical and environmental interest towards society.

Currently, PICDA is the only company in its sector that studies these innovative technologies, in order to improve the degradation of plastic material.

This project has been funded by IMPIVA.
