PLASBIO Project

R&D&I - Wednesday April 20th, 2016

The company Plásticos Industriales y Comerciales de Alfarrasí (PICDA) and AINIA Technological Center are developing the PLASBIO project.

The generation and management of waste constitutes a serious environmental problem in modern societies and has resulted in the existence of a European policy on waste. Neglect or improper waste management impacts on receiving facilities (landfills).

In order to reduce this problem, PICDA and AINIA are part of a continuous work, which has resulted in the incorporation of microorganisms in the plastic material in a viable manner. The objective is to reduce the generation of plastic waste in landfills through the development of biotechnological processes. The project is taking its first steps, seeking to increase the speed of biodegradation of the polymers using specific microorganisms.

This project is funded within the Challenge-Collaboration announcement. State program R + D + I oriented to the Challenges of the Society, promoted by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of the Government of Spain.
